Copperweld® is the original copper-clad steel (CCS) wire, a groundbreaking product first pioneered by our engineers in 1915. Copperweld® CCS is a composite in which highly conductive, corrosion-resistant copper cladding is metallurgically bonded to a strong, durable steel core through a continuous, solid cladding process using pressure rolling for primary bonding.
The copper cladding remains at constant thickness surrounding the steel and comprises a small minority of the overall wire diameter, but yields a conductivity substantially greater than that of unclad steel. CCS wire is an extraordinary conductor that provides benefits that neither metal can provide alone. Because the bulk of the current travels along the wire's skin, it is ideally suited for high-frequency applications.
Fushi Copperweld offers standard configurations of its Copperweld® CCS in 21%, 30% and 40% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) conductivities. The steel used at the core of the wire can be of whatever grade is best suited to our clients' particular applications. Material selection, varying composition and processing conditions all provide flexibility in how Fushi Copperweld can deliver exactly the product you need. Bimetallic conductors from Fushi Copperweld offer many distinct advantages, and our engineering team works in concert with our clients to determine the proper components for the stringent requirements of their products. For applications that require even greater conductivity, we can specially configure CCS to achieve up to 70% IACS.
CCS wire from Fushi Copperweld offers numerous value advantages. Steel's low price compared to copper represents upfront cost savings, but its high tensile strength also means longer spans, so installation is more efficient. Continuous copper cladding without chips or breaks means no chance of corrosion, so our value lasts over time. In the 21% hard-drawn condition, Copperweld® CCS wire is universally used as CATV drop wire bringing the signal directly to the customer's home. Our 30% and 40% DSA (dead soft annealed) Copperweld® serves as grounding conductors in utility and other industry applications. For applications that require very high tensile strengths such as guy wire, aerial conductors or spring wire, we also offer our 30% and 40% IACS Copperweld® in high strength (HS) or extra-high strength (EHS) steel options.
Only Fushi Copperweld and its authorized distributors can offer genuine Copperweld® CCS. Other manufacturers may say their products are the same, but if they use processes like electroplating, their products are susceptible to cracking, peeling, flaking, voids, porosity and other defects. Copperweld® is always clad in solid state, and such defects are never an issue because of our proprietary process and strict quality controls.
