TELFORD, ENGLAND — Fushi Copperweld, the world’s leading producer of bimetallic conductors for the telecommunications, electrical utility, automotive and other industries, announced today that its manufacturing plant in Telford, England, has been certified as having met the international standards of ISO 14001:2004, an environmental management standard. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) established the environmental management systems standards to encourage companies to evaluate all areas where their activities have environmental consequences, and to work actively to reduce their impact.
“Fushi Copperweld has always maintained high quality standards and procedures and all of our facilities are ISO 9001 certified,” says Joe Longever, the company’s co-CEO. “We also actively pursue the same high standards regarding our interaction with the environment, and are very pleased with our Telford plant for having received its ISO 14001 certification. Our processes are very friendly to the environment, and this certification underlines our corporate commitment to being good stewards of the planet.”
Fushi Copperweld’s Telford location, which opened in 1998, has developed a system of compliance under the new ISO 14001 certification and has initiated new procedures such as a comprehensive recycling program and a commitment to reducing energy consumption. The company also intends to make continuous improvement with regular review meetings for how to lessen its effect on the environment.
Jim Porteous, the facility’s operations manager, says, “In Europe, we are seeing ever stricter laws and regulations regarding pollution, recycling and waste disposal. Compliance with the rigid norms imposed by ISO 14001 will assist us in fulfilling this greater overall social responsibility."
