Theft Deterrence

The lucrative black market in scrap copper for recycling has made many industrial sites targets for theft. Grounding (earthing) wires, which are usually exposed, make an easy target for thieves. These robbers sneak in and steal copper wire and sell it to unscrupulous salvagers who will in turn sell it to be melted down and reused. Besides the loss of the material itself, every time thieves disrupt your grounding system, power outages occur, causing costly repairs, and exposing repair personnel to potential harm.

While Fushi Copperweld doesn't install alarms on its wire, we have put the word out: our bimetallic components are virtually worthless to thieves. Because our cladding permanently bonds the valuable layer of copper to less expensive metals like steel and aluminum, bimetallics from Fushi Copperweld can only be sold for the low price of mixed metal scrap, making them undesirable to would-be thieves.  Plus, Copperweld® has a core of strong steel, so it's much more difficult to cut than solid copper. As a result, your investment is safer.

Fushi Copperweld is doing more to make its products safer from dangerous thieves intent on wrecking your bottom line. Upon request, we will provide product tags that announce that your wire is Copperweld®, and not recyclable. And our research and development team is working to discover new ways to enhance our products and make them even less susceptible to theft.
